The Scope of Architecture Higher Studies in India

Architecture is considered one of the best careers in India. The course structure is really good. Also, there is a huge number of career based possibilities. Architecture/planning career pays a lot and has a lot of potentials as they are the actual maker of impressive monuments and buildings. India, itself takes pride in its historical monuments which were produced by ancient Architects.
Some rules to be aware of
The Shortest session of Architectural/planning higher studies can be of 5 years, but candidates won’t be eligible for Registration under the Architects Act, 1972 if they completed only the first part of their study year. All the Institution of Architecture/planning providing at least a bachelor degree of the architecture of 5 years must join National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) if they want to take in students for the above-mentioned courses.
More about NATA
NATA is conducted by Council of Architecture (COA). The COA conducts this entrance exam by their academic branch; National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIASA). A candidate must acquire at least 50% marks in his H.S.C or equivalent exams, also the candidate must acquire the mentioned marks in his main subject. One of the main subjects needs to be Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. There is an approved maximum number of seats averaging on about 40 that an institution can provide for candidates in the first semester. As for excellence the Government colleges are exceptional whereas not all private colleges can even provide students with placements.
Be hard working
Depending on the above-mentioned scenarios, it can be noted that enrolling for the course of Architecture/Planning is a hard and rigorous process also the completion of the whole course as per Registration rule mentioned in the Architects Act, 1972 is a lengthy and hard process. So students who want to have architecture as a career must be a top-notch and hard-working student.
Colleges
Although there is ample amount of NATA approved Private and approximately 82 Government colleges, there are colleges in India which are among the best on a scale of Architecture colleges worldwide. Few of the previously mentioned colleges are:
  • Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur),
  • Birla Institute of Technology (Mersa),
  • School of Planning and Architecture (Delhi),
  • Jadavpur University (Kolkata),
  • Sir J.J. College of Architecture (Mumbai),
  • Jamia Milia Islamia University,
  • Center of Environment Planning and Technology University (Ahmadabad)
The Jamia Milia Islamia University is the only university in India which provides a full-fledged Architecture/Planning course. The course fee in Government colleges is a lot less than most of the private colleges also the Architectures who are passed out from Government colleges seem to do better than the private college passed outs. For that reason the candidates who are planning to pursue an Architecture/Planning career should aim for a good score in their H.S.C or equivalent exams also they must acquire a good rank in NATA exams.
